Unfortunately, the cover photo is often an afterthought when a business sets up their official Facebook page. Many businesses don’t understand how powerful a well-done cover photo can be when attracting new customers and keeping your current customers engaged.
What makes a good Facebook cover photo? It takes an attractive image, an understanding of Facebook’s design guidelines, and a little bit of creativity. Here are 5 guidelines to follow when creating your business’ Facebook cover photo:
#1 – Use a unique image that represents your business. Facebook is the perfect place to show your personality. This is a cover photo we created for a client that showcases their friendly staff and hands-on service.
#2 – Size matters. The optimum size for a Facebook cover photo is 851 pixels wide by 315 pixels tall so make your image exactly this size. If you try to upload an image without these exact dimensions, Facebook will auto-size it, which will likely stretch and distort the image.
#3 – Placement matters too. Avoid placing content in the bottom left because it will be covered up by the profile picture. Any other visuals or text should be placed center or right, in order to draw attention to the bottom right where your call to action buttons are shows.
#4 – Add a call-to-action button. Recently Facebook added the option to add a call-to-action button on business pages. The new button will appear in the bottom right of your cover photo. Actionable items include contact us, shop now, sign up, watch video, book now, use app, or play game. Simply choose an action and link it to a relevant page on your website.
